Paddock Road Project Reveal

Welcome to our Paddock Road project. A collaborative endeavor with a talented team of Vineyard trade partners, the finished product is a coastal home that encapsulates the beauty of Vineyard living. We love the incorporation of color and material contrast throughout the home, achieved by bringing in natural elements to result in a home that feels representative of the client’s vision of a clean, comfortable home with the wearability to stand up to indoor outdoor living and the rental market.

As a rental on Martha’s Vineyard, the homeowners realized the appeal of having blue paint throughout for a coastal theme. However, they still wanted their home to be representative of their vision of cooler, muted colors, so ultimately they chose Benjamin Moore Ambler Slate, a blue with a charcoal undertone.

Setting the stage in the entryway, this color is carried throughout the home in a few other spaces for continuity, such as the front door, the wet bar and a powder room.

On Martha’s Vineyard where indoor/outdoor living is the norm, we rely on high performance materials to withstand the demands of coastal living. The custom bench cushion was fabricated in house by our own custom workroom.

The subtle neutral stripe gives a beachy visual texture while still keeping with the refined coastal vibe of the home. Sunbrella fabric is a high performance option for upholstery pieces due to its durability and resistance to staining and fading.

To create moments of visual interest in areas that may seem like afterthoughts, like a washroom or a laundry room, the client worked closely with MV Tile Company here on the Vineyard for a few key areas to make the home feel special and custom.

The laundry room tile was sourced from MV Tile and features a ceramic pattern tile with a subtle inlay.

We also love the fan design of the tile in this shower, also sourced through MV Tile.

One of our favorite ways to bring texture and natural elements into clients homes is through custom window treatments. This primary bathroom features a soaking tub looking out on stunning landscaping. While a sun-drenched bathing experience sounds divine, the clients wanted to be sure that there would be privacy options in place. We opted for window coverings that allow the top of the shade to drop down, allowing light to come in through the top of the window, while still allowing coverage of the shade while in the bath for privacy.

Inspired by the beauty and nature around their property, the architectural team at Sullivan and Associates designed two walls of floor to ceiling windows in the great room centered on a natural stone fireplace. Likewise inspired, the clients wanted to be able to sit in their living space and still enjoy the surrounding landscape. Framed around the walls of windows are 15 ft tall linen draperies fabricated by our in-house custom workroom. In such a large space, it was important to keep the drapery neutral so it could function and add to the overall feel of the room without overpowering the space. The drapery helps protect the furniture and also add another layer of privacy.

The dining area features one of our live edge slab tables, a favorite in our stocking program. We manufacture them ourselves in one of our factories in Indonesia. The slabs are available in a range of sizes and each one is unique. We have had clients use them not only as dining tables, but also as built in desks or worktables, and even had a client make them into a staircase!

The finished basement creates an extra hangout space for the family either when hosting or on the occasion of bad weather.  The ping pong table folds away easily, allowing flexible space in the room and the large sectional is perfect for lounging or watching movies.

This project was so much fun to bring to life. Stay tuned for more of Paddock Road, where we explore the bedrooms and outdoor spaces.
