Meshaket Reveal 2 - Creating a Custom Home with Our Own Workroom
When thinking of a Martha’s Vineyard home, you may not immediately picture a green velvet bed. However, the combination of the luxe texture of velvet, paired here against a light bleached wood tone of the bed frame result in a primary bedroom that brings the moodier, out of the box approach the client envisioned to a space that still works in a coastal environment.
To bring this particular vision to life, we extensively utilized the resources of our own on-site custom workroom. Specializing in slipcovers, reupholstery, custom pillows and cushions, our workroom can breathe new life into existing items or create beautiful pieces from scratch.
This project was completed at a time when the pandemic made the custom furniture industry unreliable, due to long lead times and backorders. Knowing that they were aiming at a set move-in date, the safer choice for this client was to modify existing furniture rather than buying new custom pieces.
To achieve the client’s vision of a bold and dramatic bedroom, our workroom reupholstered this canopy style bed in a green velvet fabric. We love the tactile addition of the velvet fabric to the sleek and tailored silhouette of the bed frame.
Balancing traditional themes with modern styling was a large focus of the design of this home. We chose an ikat print fabric for the bench at the end of the bed to bring in a preppy element. The fabric is printed on unbleached linen, which adds a relaxed, informal feel. This is offset by the modern black base, the bench still feels at home amidst other contemporary components in the room.
A custom-made pillow in the same ikat fabric rounds out the design, resulting in a highly stylized boutique and customized feel.
A custom pillow grouping or a custom-made cushion can transform a room. This built-in window seat features a custom made cushion, the dreamiest spot to lounge in this little girls room.
The rolled edge detailing and the buttonless tufting are nods to traditional design fundamentals. We’ve paired the cushion with a textured window covering and patterned wallpaper, resulting in an exemplary balance of preppy and contemporary. The pastel color pallet is youthful but still fits with the sophisticated and stylized design scheme in the rest of the home.
A curated, custom pillow package is an impactful way to add personality to any area of your home. In this project, the blend of Ralph Lauren plaid with rich jewel tones and overlapping small scale floral patterns weave in the traditional sensibilities while the sleek silhouette of the sofas bring modern flair.
Our custom workroom has been creating and reviving furniture, cushions and pillows for more than 40 years. Available to those working though our Interior Design Department or our Furniture Store, we love being able to fabricate pieces with longevity and personality, meant to be enjoyed for years to come.
